About the role
We’re looking for an individual a proven track record working within a sports communications role to join our Liverpool FC team as a Men’s First Team Communications Manager. In this role, you will develop content and direct creative execution to provide a consistent, targeted, and impactful message. You will build and maintain solid partnerships with assigned internal clients to better develop, coordinate, direct, and facilitate strategic communications designed to meet business goals.
What will you be doing?
- Responsible for section K delivery and always ensuring compliance with contractual media obligations across all four major competitions: Premier League, UEFA Champions League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup.
- Deliver both player and manager engagement across all forms of media (broadcaster, print, radio, online) to help increase the positive coverage of both the club and its players.
- Write briefs for first-team players and staff on not just sporting, but wider issues, ensuring they are fully prepared for all media activity.
- Maintain and enhance close relationships with players’ representatives to ensure they feel supported by the club, have buy in with contractual media activity, and ensure any personal media appearances portray the club positively.
- Oversee and track the club's broader media activities while providing guidance to key spokespersons.
- Assist the director of communications in crafting timely responses to news events, both proactively and reactively, and serving as the club spokesperson when appropriate.
- Work in tandem with the PR and player appearance departments to help support the commercial, sponsorship and charitable work of the club.
- Provide talent access to non-rights holders e.g. LFCTV, matchday programme, national newspapers and supporters’ channels.
- Deal with high-profile personalities and sensitive situations tactfully and maintain confidentially at all times.
- Required to work all first team matches as well as selected Women’s and Academy fixtures.
Who are we looking for?
To be successful in this role, you will have a proven track record working within a sport communication role, preferably in an elite sporting environment and will ideally have a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in communications, public relations, journalism, English, or a related field. You will have a good understanding of the principles of section K. You will be experienced in effectively dealing with crisis situations and reputation management.
You will be a creative thinker who has experience of maximising publicity opportunities through multiple social media channels. You will have sound judgement in assessing what can constitute a potentially positive and negative news story; avoiding scrutiny and ensuring the club’s players and staff are portrayed in a positive light. With your excellent communication skills, you can build success working relationships both internally and externally. You can demonstrate strong leadership and team working skills as well as being able to work accurately under pressure. You will be able to work confidentially and adapt to changes in priorities effectively.
Due to the nature of the role, you can work flexibly during the week including evenings and weekends as well as travel both nationally and internationally.
