About the role
We have an exciting opportunity to join our Grounds Team on a two-year apprenticeship course, working towards a Level 2 Sports Turf Operative apprenticeship. This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone with a keen interest in Sports Turf. Working alongside and supporting the Grounds team to maintain and prepare the playing surfaces, sport pitches and surrounding grounds.

What will you be doing?
- Undertaking routine maintenance work on the clubs sporting facilities, including pitch surfaces, to recognised national standards.
- Assist the Grounds team to ensure that the pitch and stadium is prepared correctly for fixtures and other events involving the playing surface.
- Safe operation of a range of horticultural equipment and machinery, ensuring all is maintained in accordance with routine operating requirements.
- Undertake general maintenance tasks in relation to the playing surface and surrounding areas.
- Loading, transporting, and storing equipment and materials safely.
- Providing ground staff support as required for matches/fixtures with a flexible approach to working hours subject to the requirements of the Club.
- As an Apprentice you will, in the main, work alongside our experienced staff who will teach you how to do the wide range of jobs associated with maintaining The Club’s grounds to the highest standard.
Who are we looking for?
We’re looking for candidates with an enthusiasm for the industry and ambition to develop the many skills involved with maintaining the club’s playing surfaces to the highest standards. The ideal candidate would be local to the area with the ability to travel across our sites, hardworking, reliable and have some interest or experience in horticulture / sportsturf.
You must be able to work at Level 1 in Functional Skills (Maths and English) to be able to undertake this apprenticeship.
Things to Consider
- You will be expected to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- The role will involve physical work such as mowing, digging, and movement of equipment and materials.
- You will be required to work at all of our sites (Kirkby, Melwood and Anfield locations) and should be confident that you are able to make travel arrangements to do so, either via personal transport or public transport.
- Please ensure you have listed all qualifications & grades/ predicted grades in the appropriate section of this application, paying particular attention to Maths & English.

Why should you apply?
You will work 37.5 hours per week between 8.00am and 4.30pm, including some weekend working. Times may vary depending on the season but this will be discussed at interview.
After completion of the apprenticeship and obtaining a formal qualification, you will then be eligible to join the IOG Register of Turf Management Professionals. There will also be opportunities to apply for any permanent vacancies, subject to availability.
